We are working exclusively with a government-backed initiative to recruit a Veterinary Pathologist for a long-term contract based in County Kerry. This is a rare opportunity to contribute directly to wildlife disease monitoring and public health through structured post-mortem work on badgers and foxes.
The Role:
This is a hands-on, purpose-driven position where you'll be responsible for conducting post-mortem examinations as part of a national disease surveillance programme.
Responsibilities Include:
- Carrying out full post-mortem exams on badgers and foxes
- Performing visual assessments and collecting tissue samples
- Preparing submissions for laboratory testing
- Ensuring detailed and accurate record-keeping
- Adhering to strict biosecurity protocols and safety procedures
- Liaising with field operatives and government teams as required
- Supporting broader wildlife disease research and reporting
Who This Suits:
This role would suit either a newly qualified vet or an experienced clinician with an interest in wildlife, public health, or pathology.
Prior experience in necropsy work is needed, but full training can be provided.
Essential Requirements:
- VCI registered
- Some post-mortem or necropsy experience
- High attention to detail and ability to follow structured protocols
- Comfortable working independently within a regulatory environment
- Interest in wildlife, epidemiology, or veterinary public health
What’s on Offer:
- Salary €50,000 – €65,000+ depending on experience
- Monday to Friday only – no weekends or on-call
