An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon with an interest in medicine to join the team at our client's 24-hour hospital in Alfreton, Derbyshire. This full-time, permanent role offers a fantastic chance to work in a dynamic, well-equipped hospital while contributing to exceptional patient care.
About the Role: This position is based on a 39-hour week, spread across four days, with a 1:4 weekend rotation. Flexibility is offered where possible, so please let us know what schedule works for you. The role includes two days on wards and two days on consults per week. While a certificate in medicine is not required, it is welcomed and supported.
You’ll be part of a large, driven, and highly skilled team comprising 10 vets, including specialists in areas such as dermatology, surgery, internal medicine, emergency & critical care, and ophthalmology. You’ll work alongside a fantastic head nurse, 12 nurses, and 5 receptionists, all committed to delivering the highest standards of client and patient care.
The hospital is equipped with six consultation rooms, separate dog and cat wards, three sterile theatres, diagnostic suites, dental facilities, digital x-ray, and more. This supportive environment ensures that you’ll have everything you need to thrive in your role and continue developing your skills.

Your Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional clinical care to your patients and clear updates to clients
Prepare tailored treatment and care plans with accurate cost estimates
Mentor and develop your team to enhance their skills and effectiveness
Complete clinical handovers and ensure smooth transitions for out-of-hours or enhanced care
Skills & Experience:
RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
Proven experience in delivering high-quality patient and client care
Strong team player with effective communication skills
Demonstrated clinical leadership ability
Experience fostering a positive, progressive clinical culture
Skilled in supporting nurse consults and Schedule 3 procedures with an understanding of how this contributes to clinic performance and efficiency.
