Veterinary Surgeon- (Bearsden)

Location Bearsden
Discipline: Veterinary Surgeons
Job type: Permanent
Salary: Depends on Experience
Job ref: SG4042
Published: 12 months ago

Our client in Bearsden have a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly and supportive team.

They have a team of 6 vets (3 part time, 3 full time including myself), 5 RVNs (2 part time and 3 full time), 2 nurse student, 3 receptionists (1 part time and 2 full time) and 1 practice manager. Everybody is friendly and we laugh everyday, it is fun to work there, with minimal stress thanks to good organisation.

They are lucky to have a variety of experience and interests (acupuncture, exotics, ultrasound scan, soft tissue surgery, dentistry) in the practice and they learn a lot from each other. Their nurses are great and a couple recently went on a schedule 3 course and have an interest in exotics, one of them plans to go on a physiotherapy course later on this year too. They have a visiting surgeon who comes to their practice to perform more advanced procedures when needed. Their reception team is experienced and good at triaging and prioritising the appointments on busy days.

They have the usual equipment (Idexx lasercyte and catalyst, doppler, infusion pump, new dental machine, dental xray etc…) and more equipment is on the way to improve their services and care to their patients.

The practice is owned by the Vets4Pets group and there is also the possibility to become a JVP.  Their diary is well organised with time blocked for a coffee break in the morning, 1 hour lunch time with 30minutes catching up time around that time to make sure they do get their lunch, and catching up slots in the afternoon (they are not asked to consult 3 hours in a row without a break). They also have some protected admin time once a week and their home time is precious (since September 2021 I have only finished late once because of an emergency exlap in the evening and it was only 1 extra hour).

They work 1 Saturday morning in 5 and it is only 9am-12pm. Those hours are counted as overtime. Overtime is paid for or can be taken in lieu as you wish.

They have a good share of surgical time and consulting time. Their manager is very flexible and will do all she can to make sure they are happy, as stress free as possible and in general they will help each other during the day, swapping shifts etc.

Their clients are lovely, most of them have pet insurance and/or would be happy to pay to provide the best care to their beloved pets. They are lucky to have the vet school and vetsnow to support them with out of hour care and referrals nearby.

Bearsden is a beautiful area near Glasgow city and really not far to the gorgeous countryside, hills and lochs to enjoy on your day off or weekends.

The ideal candidate would be an experienced vet looking for a full time job (40hrs/week + 1 in 5 Saturdays morning) but part time and less experienced but confident vets would be considered too.

You would have 5.6 weeks of holiday including bank holiday. RCVS, VDS fees paid for, there is an allocated CPD budget, CPD days are paid along with travel expenses.
The salary will depends on your experience.

At Bearsden they are really proud of their team and if you would like to join them in a role where you are supported and valued and where you can thrive at doing what you do best we would love to hear from you.
