Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Mullingar, Co. Westmeath
Full or Part-Time | Maternity Cover | September 2025 Start

I’m working with a well-regarded small animal practice in Mullingar that’s looking for a confident vet to provide maternity cover for around 15 months from September 2025. This is a great chance to step into a busy yet supportive clinic with no on-call and a genuinely nice team.

The Role:
This is a first opinion small animal role covering consults, surgery and diagnostics, with a varied caseload and strong client relationships. The practice runs with 2 vets, an RVN, an ACA, and a hands-on practice manager, so you’ll have a close-knit support network.

  • Full or part-time considered (40 hours full-time)

  • 1 in 2 Saturday mornings (9am–1:30pm)

  • No Sundays, bank holidays or on-call

Location Perks:
Mullingar is a lively town with great transport links and plenty going on — the clinic itself is within walking distance of the bus and train stations.

What They’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 2 years’ small animal experience

  • Confident with routine surgery, medicine, and consults

  • Registered (or eligible) with the VCI by September 2025

  • Someone who enjoys a busy caseload and working as part of a team

Benefits Include:

  • Competitive salary (DOE)

  • €1300 CPD allowance + 5 days CPD leave

  • VCI & VDS fees paid

  • 22 days annual leave + birthday leave

  • Paid maternity/paternity/adoptive leave

  • Sick pay

  • Bereavement leave

  • Company pension

  • Discounted vet fees,

This would suit an experienced small animal vet who wants a friendly, well-organised clinic, a steady and varied caseload, and zero on-call.
