Veterinary Nurse – Up to £30k – Flexible Hours, No Sundays

We’re representing a well-established small animal practice in the Hertfordshire area that’s looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their close-knit team. This is an opportunity to work in a modern, purpose-built clinic where nurses are truly valued for their clinical expertise and encouraged to get involved in all aspects of patient care — from theatre work to nurse clinics and beyond.

Why this role stands out

  • Salary: £27,000–£30,000 DOE

  • Hours: Full or part-time to suit your lifestyle

  • No Sundays, no OOH and only 1 in 3 Saturdays (half-day)

  • Choice of two shift patterns to fit your preferences

  • Genuine focus on work–life balance

The practice

This independent-feel, small animal clinic is led by a friendly team that includes vets, an RVN, veterinary care assistants, and dedicated reception support. The premises are purpose-built, featuring separate cat and dog wards, an isolation unit, ultrasound, digital X-ray, in-house lab, capnography, and a dedicated sterile theatre.

The client base is loyal, with a high percentage of insured pets, allowing for longer appointment times — 30 minutes for non-routine consults and 15 minutes for vaccinations — to ensure the best possible care. The practice also welcomes visiting specialists for advanced procedures such as cardiac scans, abdominal ultrasounds with sampling, and orthopaedic surgeries.

About you

We’re looking for a confident, proactive RVN who:

  • Is competent in all aspects of veterinary nursing, including anaesthetics and nurse-led clinics

  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Enjoys delivering outstanding client and patient care

  • Is interested in contributing to the success of the practice as a business and supporting the wider team

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, wants to make the most of their nursing skills, and is keen to continue their professional development (with CPD both funded and encouraged).

  • Benefits package

    • Competitive salary: £27,000–£30,000 DOE

    • RCVS & VDS fees paid

    • Funded CPD

    • Pension scheme

    • Contribution towards private healthcare
