Night Veterinary Surgeon – 7 On / 14 or 21 Off | Norfolk

A rare opportunity has become available for an experienced Night Veterinary Surgeon to join a well established, independently run small animal practice in Norfolk. This role is ideal for a vet who genuinely values extended time off, a supportive overnight setup and a calm, well organised working environment.

The Role

You’ll provide out of hours care across a varied and interesting caseload, including emergency presentations, hospitalised inpatients and occasional late consultations. The rota is 7 nights on / 21 nights off (Monday to Monday), offering exceptional work life balance with only 12 working weeks per year.

Shift hours run from 6:30pm to 8:30am, with clear handovers to and from the day team between 6:30pm and 7:00am. There is also a twilight consulting service between 7:30pm and 9:30pm, after which the focus is emergency and inpatient care.

You’ll work sole charge overnight but will always be supported by an experienced night RVN, allowing you to manage cases confidently while still having clinical support on hand. Quiet periods are structured to allow adequate rest.

What They’re Looking For

You’ll need at least 2 years’ UK veterinary experience and be confident working sole charge overnight. A solid grounding in emergency medicine and inpatient care is essential. Experience with rabbit medicine and surgery is required, while exotics experience is a bonus but not essential.

They’re looking for someone with strong clinical reasoning, good communication skills and a genuine passion for continuity of care.

Please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Accommodation Included

A real highlight of this role is the accommodation. A private lodge located next to the practice (within the owner’s outhouse) is provided for your working week. This offers a comfortable, quiet space to properly rest between shifts and removes the stress of commuting during nights.

Salary & Package

  • Salary ranges from £58,000 to £68,000 DOE

  • Accommodation included during working weeks

  • Outstanding work life balance with long blocks of time off

  • Friendly, loyal and experienced team

  • Independent practice environment with high clinical standards

Why Norfolk?

Norfolk offers the perfect balance of countryside, coastline and calm. From unspoilt beaches and nature reserves to historic towns and the Norfolk Broads, it’s an ideal place to properly switch off and enjoy your 21 days off between blocks.
