Mixed Animal Veterinarian - Central Otago Adventure Awaits!

Are you a Mixed Animal Vet with experience across sheep, beef, and equine practice, plus a solid companion animal skill set? Ready to embrace a role where no two days are the same, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand?

We're seeking a passionate and experienced generalist vet to join a busy and supportive mixed practice based in stunning Wanaka, Central Otago. This is more than just a job - it’s an opportunity to work with a proactive and welcoming team that values collaboration, development, and high-quality care for all creatures great and small.

The Role:

This full-time position (minimum 32 hours per week, including a shared Saturday and on-call roster) offers a fantastic variety of work. You’ll support the local farming community with sheep and beef work, contribute to a growing equine ambulatory service, and also deliver gold-standard care to companion animals.

You'll be part of a close-knit team committed to clinical excellence and community care, with an on-call roster designed to protect your work-life balance - typically just one weekend in five.

About You:

  • MUST be eligible for registration in New Zealand
  • 3+ years of experience in mixed practice
  • Confident in both large and small animal medicine and surgery (including sole charge when needed)
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills
  • A team-oriented attitude and a passion for delivering high-quality care across species

What’s on Offer:

  • Competitive salary aligned with current market benchmarks
  • CPD allowance + study leave to support your professional growth
  • Birthday leave + staff discounts
  • Supportive team culture focused on your well-being through a dedicated wellness programme
  • Career development opportunities

Location:
Think ski fields in winter, lake swims in summer, and a backyard of hiking, biking, and adventure year-round. Wanaka is not only a breathtaking place to live but also offers a fulfilling mixed caseload, a tight-knit veterinary network, and all the perks of small-town living without compromise. Great schools, vibrant community, and a lifestyle second to none.
