An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Large Animal Veterinarian looking to relocate to New Zealand. This role offers the chance to work in a progressive rural practice while enjoying the unique lifestyle that comes with living and working in one of the world’s most scenic farming regions.
You will join a supportive and experienced veterinary team delivering high-quality veterinary services to dairy, beef, and sheep farming clients. The practice works closely with local farming communities and provides a broad and rewarding caseload across production animal medicine, herd health, and on-farm consultancy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys working outdoors, building strong relationships with farmers, and playing an active role in improving herd health, productivity, and animal welfare.
The Role
This position involves a varied and rewarding mix of clinical and advisory work across large animal practice.
Key responsibilities include:

Providing veterinary care for dairy, beef, and sheep farms

Performing routine and emergency farm visits

Supporting herd health planning, disease prevention, and productivity improvements

Conducting fertility work, pregnancy diagnosis, and reproductive management

Advising farmers on nutrition, animal health, and farm management practices

Building strong relationships with farming clients and supporting long-term herd health strategies

Collaborating with colleagues to deliver high-quality veterinary services across the region

Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

A recognised veterinary degree eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand

Experience in large animal or mixed practice with a strong interest in production animal medicine

Confidence working independently in farm environments

Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with farming clients
