Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Surgical Bias

An established small animal practice in Belfast is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong surgical bias to join its clinical team. This role would particularly suit a vet with advanced surgical confidence, ideally holding or working towards a certificate in soft tissue or orthopaedic surgery.

The practice supports complex case work, invests in clinical development, and encourages vets to lean into their strengths. Surgery is a key focus of this role, with the caseload and support to match.

The Role
 • Small animal role with a strong emphasis on surgery
 • Routine and advanced soft tissue procedures as standard
 • Exposure to orthopaedics and complex surgical cases
 • Emergency surgery including caesarians, enterotomies, and amputations
 • Minimal consult bias compared to typical first opinion roles
 • Supported by an experienced nursing and veterinary team
 • Opportunity to shape and develop the surgical offering within the practice

The Ideal Candidate
 • Veterinary degree from an accredited institution
 • Minimum of 5 years’ small animal clinical experience
 • High level of confidence in soft tissue surgery
 • Certificate holder or actively working towards one preferred
 • Comfortable managing surgical cases independently
 • Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues
 • Professional, compassionate, and clinically driven

Desirable Experience
 • Orthopaedic surgical experience
 • Leadership or mentoring experience within a clinical setting
 • Interest in helping develop protocols or mentoring junior vets

What’s On Offer

 • Competitive salary dependent on experience and working pattern
 • Flexible working hours and rota
 • Seven weeks’ holiday pro rata
 • Partnership opportunities for the right individual
 • CPD actively encouraged and supported
 • Professional fees and insurance covered
 • Mental health and wellbeing support
