Night Veterinary Surgeon
Limerick | €55,000–€80,000 | 5 Nights On / 10 Nights Off

A small animal hospital in Limerick is looking to welcome a confident Veterinary Surgeon for a dedicated night role, ahead of the opening of their brand-new hospital facility this May.

This is a great opportunity for a vet who enjoys emergency and inpatient care while benefiting from a rota that offers significant time off and strong work-life balance.

The Role

The position follows a 5 nights on / 10 nights off rota, working 12-hour night shifts (8pm–8am). This provides excellent continuity of care while allowing plenty of time off between rotations.

You will be working alongside one experienced RVN overnight, managing emergency cases, inpatients and urgent referrals.

The caseload currently sits at roughly 60% medicine and 40% surgery, including emergency procedures. Surgical exposure includes cases such as GDVs, with around 5–7 seen per year, alongside other emergency presentations.

The clinic is particularly keen to speak with vets who are comfortable working sole charge overnight and confident handling first opinion emergencies.

The Hospital

The team is preparing to move into a new hospital facility opening in May, which will include advanced equipment such as CT imaging. As the nearest CT scanner is currently two hours away, the hospital is expected to see increased referral caseload once operational.

The existing team consists of 3 vets and 3 RVNs, and the practice maintains a supportive and collaborative working environment. This is a night role, with 1 vet, and 1 RVN on throughout the night, so confidence and competence in sole charge is a must.

Facilities for Night Team

Comfort during night shifts for breaks have been carefully considered, including:

  • Staff accommodation offsite available for the block of work (shared)
  • Kitchen and sitting room on-site
  • Beds and pull-out couches available for rest during quieter periods
  • Breaks typically taken through the night depending on caseload

Salary & Package

  • Salary between €55,000 – €80,000 depending on experience
  • Accommodation available during working block
  • Opportunity to be part of a new hospital launch and growing service
  • VCI Membership fees paid
  • VDS cover
  • CPD Allowance
  • Pension Contribution Scheme
