​An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Theatre RVN to join this fantastic team at an exceptional 24-Hour Hospital. It's a bright and spacious hospital complete with digital x-ray, ultrasound, bronchoscope and endoscope, blood pressure machine, ECG, full lab including microscope, haematology and biochemistry analyser, plus CT scanner. They also have full, dedicated night teams to ensure continuity of care out of hours. 

About:

The clinic offers services including flexible and rigid endoscopy, a well-equipped in-house laboratory (including blood gases and clotting profiles), a high spec ultrasound machine, CT imaging and digital x-ray.

They have a strong team of vets with broad skill range and high level of nursing care. The practice is a 15 minute drive away from the famous Southend Pier, which is surrounded by a multitude of shops, restaurants, bars and shopping centres - some of which are included in their retail benefits!

Full time salary package to include: 

  • Salary: £30,000 per annum 

  • 40 hours per week with 1:3 half or 1:6 full weekends 

  • £750 CPD allowance with 2-days CPD leave and in-house CPD available

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid

Duties:

  • Support Surgical Vets by planning and implementing nursing care in line with the patients' needs, diagnosis and surgical procedure  

  • Draw up and administer medications, including CRI 

  • Perform physical exams on admitted patients; heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort. 

  • Keeping nursing notes up to date and communicating with Southend and Branch Vets regarding patient progress and care 

  • Monitoring anaesthesia and recovering patients 

  • Experience (or willing to learn) in caring for surgical patients with complex needs, e.g. preparing and assisting in laser surgery, flexible and rigid endoscopy, orthopaedics, preparing to place feeding tubes and drains 

  • Contribute to infection control strategies currently in place in the theatres, prep areas and sterilising room 

  • Training PCAs and SVNs on theatre nursing and anaesthesia 

  • Being a Clinical coach
