This role will suit an experienced small animal veterinarian who enjoys being an all-rounder, is comfortable in sole charge, and is motivated by the opportunity to shape and lead a community-focused clinic.
The Opportunity
This is a permanent role, open to both full-time and part-time veterinarians (approximately 0.6–1.0 FTE), working Monday to Friday only. You’ll be supported by an experienced veterinary nurse and a clinic coordinator, allowing you to focus on high-quality clinical care, leadership, and client relationships.
There is also future potential for profit share for the right candidate, offering the opportunity to benefit from the long-term growth and success of the clinic.
The Role
As the lead Small Animal Veterinarian, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the clinic while remaining hands-on with the clinical caseload.
This is a role for a veterinarian who enjoys variety and responsibility, and who takes pride in delivering excellent care within a close-knit community.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering high-quality small animal veterinary care across consulting and surgery
Leading daily clinic operations and contributing to business planning and decision-making
Supporting and developing clinic team members, with recruitment and performance support as required
Building strong, long-term relationships with clients and their pets
Managing and resolving complex or challenging clinical cases
Maintaining high clinical standards and accurate records
Contributing to a positive, collaborative clinic culture
Engaging in ongoing professional development
Enjoying a true Monday to Friday role with no weekends or on-call
About You
This position will suit a veterinarian who values autonomy, leadership, and community connection.
You will ideally bring:
Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration and a current APC (or eligibility to register)
A Bachelor of Veterinary Science
3+ years’ experience in small animal practice
Strong clinical capability across consulting and surgery
Confidence working in sole charge
A warm, approachable, and professional manner
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A team-first mindset with leadership potential
A genuine commitment to high standards of patient care
