Employee-Owned Practice | Unique Island Lifestyle | Supportive Team

I am working with a well-established, employee-owned mixed practice based in Shetland – the UK’s most northerly veterinary setting – who are looking to recruit two Mixed Veterinary Surgeons to join their friendly and supportive team.

This opportunity has arisen due to maternity leave cover alongside continued growth in caseload.

The Practice

You’ll be joining a genuinely collaborative and well-balanced team made up of:

  • 6 Veterinary Surgeons (mix of full-time, part-time and maternity cover)

  • 3 Full-Time RVNs and 2 RVNs on flexible hours

  • 2 Animal Care Assistants

  • Experienced and knowledgeable reception and administrative support

This is also a Registered Nurse Training Practice, offering excellent opportunities for mentoring and involvement in teaching if that’s an area of interest.

The practice provides a wide range of services, from routine consultations to emergency surgeries, and is well-equipped with:

  • Ultrasound scanners across two main branches

  • Endoscope

  • Digital X-ray

  • Dental X-ray

  • Idexx in-house laboratory suite

They are strongly committed to promoting and protecting both the physical and mental wellbeing of their team, with a supportive working culture and a real focus on work-life balance.

Life in Shetland

Shetland offers a lifestyle that is truly unique within the UK. Ranked sixth in Lonely Planet’s top European destinations – and the only UK location to feature – it combines professional fulfilment with exceptional quality of life.

From the world-famous Up Helly Aa fire festival and Shetland Folk Festival, to the midnight sun of the Simmer Dim, autumn hill-walking and kayaking, and winter Northern Lights — there is always something to look forward to. Wildlife is abundant, with orcas frequently visible from the coastline.

This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking for varied mixed work, a close-knit team environment, and a genuine lifestyle change.
