Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Permanent, Full-Time | Taumarunui, King Country

Talal at Lloyd & Cowan Recruitment is excited to be working with a well-established veterinary practice in Taumarunui, King Country, to find a Mixed Animal Veterinarian to join their friendly and supportive team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a generalist vet who enjoys variety — from sheep and beef work through to companion animal care — and is looking for a role where they can genuinely feel part of the community they serve.

The Role

This permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) includes rostered Saturdays and participation in an on-call rotation. The on-call schedule is thoughtfully structured to support work–life balance, with weekends generally around 1 in 5 (or less) and one weeknight on call.

You’ll be working as part of a collaborative, down-to-earth team that values teamwork, professional growth, and high standards of care across both large and small animal practice.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Providing high-quality veterinary care to both production and companion animals

  • Supporting herd health programmes, fertility management, and disease prevention

  • Performing medical and surgical procedures across mixed practice

  • Building strong, trusted relationships with farmers and pet owners

  • Contributing ideas to improve services, systems, and client outcomes

  • Continuing to develop your clinical skills with support from experienced colleagues

  • Working alongside skilled nurses, technicians, and support staff who genuinely enjoy what they do

About You

This role would suit a veterinarian who enjoys mixed practice, values collaboration, and takes pride in delivering great care.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration and a current APC (or eligibility to register)

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science

  • Experience in mixed animal practice, particularly sheep and beef

  • Confidence in consulting, surgery, and case management

  • A friendly, approachable communication style

  • A compassionate, practical approach to patient care

  • A team-first mindset and a genuine interest in continued learning

What’s On Offer

This practice places real importance on looking after its people, offering a well-rounded package that supports both career development and wellbeing:

  • Competitive salary package

  • Six-monthly development and performance reviews

  • Ongoing CPD and professional development support

  • Employee assistance programme

  • Wellbeing and lifestyle initiatives

  • Employer KiwiSaver contributions

  • Staff discounts on veterinary services and products

  • Annual flu vaccination

  • An extra paid day off for your birthday

  • Long service leave

  • Enhanced parental leave provisions

  • Flexible working arrangements where possible
