Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Talal at Lloyd & Cowan Recruitment is excited to be working with a well-established veterinary practice in Taumarunui, King Country, to find a Mixed Animal Veterinarian to join their friendly and supportive team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a generalist vet who enjoys variety — from sheep and beef work through to companion animal care — and is looking for a role where they can genuinely feel part of the community they serve.
The Role
This permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) includes rostered Saturdays and participation in an on-call rotation. The on-call schedule is thoughtfully structured to support work–life balance, with weekends generally around 1 in 5 (or less) and one weeknight on call.
You’ll be working as part of a collaborative, down-to-earth team that values teamwork, professional growth, and high standards of care across both large and small animal practice.
Your day-to-day will include:

Providing high-quality veterinary care to both production and companion animals

Supporting herd health programmes, fertility management, and disease prevention

Performing medical and surgical procedures across mixed practice

Building strong, trusted relationships with farmers and pet owners

Contributing ideas to improve services, systems, and client outcomes

Continuing to develop your clinical skills with support from experienced colleagues
-
Working alongside skilled nurses, technicians, and support staff who genuinely enjoy what they do
About You
This role would suit a veterinarian who enjoys mixed practice, values collaboration, and takes pride in delivering great care.
You’ll ideally bring:

Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration and a current APC (or eligibility to register)

A Bachelor of Veterinary Science

Experience in mixed animal practice, particularly sheep and beef

Confidence in consulting, surgery, and case management

A friendly, approachable communication style

A compassionate, practical approach to patient care

A team-first mindset and a genuine interest in continued learning
