Clinical Director – Small Animal
Guernsey | Full Relocation Package | £120,000+

A well-established veterinary practice in Guernsey is seeking an experienced Clinical Director to lead its veterinary team through an exciting and meaningful new phase of development.

This is a rare opportunity for a clinically excellent vet who enjoys both hands-on practice and leadership. The role combines day-to-day clinical work with mentorship, operational input, and the opportunity to shape the future direction of a respected island practice.

The position offers a 3-year contract, a highly competitive salary starting from £120,000, and a full relocation package for those moving to Guernsey.

The Practice

Established over four decades ago, the practice has built its reputation on strong client relationships and high standards of care. Serving a close-knit island community of around 65,000 people, the clinic benefits from an exceptionally loyal client base, with many families having trusted the practice with their pets for generations.

Operating across two sites, the practice provides a full range of small animal services including consultations, surgery, dentistry, imaging, and inpatient care. The team prides itself on managing the majority of cases in-house, referring only for advanced diagnostics such as CT or MRI when necessary.

Following the retirement of a long-standing senior vet, the practice is now entering a new phase. The foundations are strong, but there is an opportunity to rebuild and refine clinical systems, strengthen leadership, and support the team in delivering the level of care they aspire to.

The Role

The Clinical Director role is approximately 60–70% clinical and 30–40% leadership.

You will continue to work hands-on in consultations and surgery while also providing guidance and support to the veterinary team. The role involves mentoring colleagues, developing clinical protocols, contributing to operational decisions, and fostering a positive and supportive clinical culture.

The practice offers genuine autonomy and encourages vets to work up cases thoroughly while collaborating closely as a team.

Out-of-hours responsibilities are shared fairly, currently around 1 in 4 depending on team size, with alternating weekends. Saturdays form the main weekend commitment, while Sundays are reserved for emergencies only, typically involving just one hour of availability. As the team continues to grow, the rota will become even more manageable.

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon (MRCVS) with around 8 years’ experience or more and strong confidence in both medicine and surgery. A postgraduate certificate would be advantageous but is not essential.

More importantly, the practice is looking for someone who leads with integrity, patience, and empathy. A vet who can support colleagues, navigate challenging conversations constructively, and help guide the team through a period of positive change.

This role will suit someone who enjoys building systems, developing people, and creating a strong clinical culture rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

Why Guernsey

Guernsey offers an exceptional quality of life alongside significant financial advantages. The island operates a flat 20% income tax system with no capital gains tax, inheritance tax, or VAT, meaning a salary of £120,000 can deliver a substantially higher take-home income than comparable roles in the UK.

Beyond the financial benefits, the island lifestyle is a major draw. Guernsey offers beautiful coastline, safe communities, minimal commuting, and excellent connectivity to the UK, with London just 45 minutes away by air.
