We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, highly-rated practice in Derby city centre. This progressive clinic boasts a friendly and passionate team, led by a current Lead Vet with advanced expertise in small animal surgery and a special focus on orthopaedics.

As the Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will play a key role in directing the practice, providing exceptional care to patients, and supporting your team in delivering the best client experience. You will also take an active role in the operational success of the practice, with potential opportunities to become a Branch Partner, giving you ownership and clinical freedom, while benefiting from the support of a wider network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the veterinary team, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.

  • Provide high-quality care to patients, diagnosing medical conditions and formulating treatment plans.

  • Perform a range of surgical procedures.

  • Prescribe medications and advise pet owners on treatment options and care.

  • Ensure compliance with all veterinary ethics, statutes, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate patient medical records.

  • Manage practice performance, budget, and overall profitability, with the support of regional teams.

  • Assist in recruiting and training new veterinary staff, with support from the recruitment teams.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Clinical Expertise: Proficiency in small animal surgery, diagnosis, and treatment of various medical conditions, emergency care, and managing critical cases.

  • Professional Skills: Effective communication, time management, and the ability to manage a caseload. Experience working with veterinary software and diagnostic tools.

  • Personal Abilities: Empathy, compassion, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
