Lead Veterinarian – Senior Clinical Leadership Role (Sydney, NSW)

Are you a senior small animal veterinarian ready to take the next step into leadership?
Looking for a role where you can shape clinical standards, mentor a large team, and work in a well-equipped, progressive hospital?

This is a rare opportunity to step into a Lead Veterinarian position within a highly reputable, purpose-built veterinary hospital on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. You will join a fast-paced, progressive environment with a loyal client base, complex caseloads, and genuine support to grow your leadership and specialist interests.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Established, high-performing hospital with an excellent reputation

  • Purpose-built, modern facilities with advanced diagnostics

  • Diverse and engaging caseload, ideal for veterinarians who enjoy challenge and variety

  • Collaborative leadership structure with senior clinical and management support

  • Opportunity to influence clinical direction and standards of care

  • Strong culture of learning, development and progression

A clinical interest in areas such as orthopaedics, advanced imaging or nuclear medicine would be highly regarded (with training available), but is not essential.

The Hospital Environment

You will be working within a large, multidisciplinary team of approximately 40 staff, including 10+ veterinarians with a wide range of clinical interests. The hospital provides services beyond standard GP work, including:

  • Complex dentistry

  • Advanced imaging (ultrasound, X-ray, dental X-ray)

  • Nuclear medicine (training provided)

  • Soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Wildlife care and hospitalisation

  • Boarding services and Puppy Preschool

Facilities include multiple consult rooms, dual surgical theatres, in-house pathology, advanced imaging suites, and industry-leading clinical management systems.

The Role

As Lead Veterinarian, you will combine hands-on clinical work with leadership and strategic input:

  • Managing a varied medical and surgical caseload

  • Mentoring and supporting a team of veterinarians

  • Providing clinical leadership and guidance across the hospital

  • Contributing to performance development and team growth

  • Supporting training of nursing and support staff

  • Driving best-practice clinical standards

  • Aligning clinical excellence with business and operational goals

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary package plus superannuation

  • Leadership development programs and ongoing mentorship

  • Internal and external CPD support

  • Access to a wider network of referral and specialist hospitals

  • Corporate benefits and additional perks

  • Long-term career progression opportunities

  • A supportive and collaborative leadership team

About You

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in small animal practice

  • BVSc, DVM or equivalent with eligibility for NSW registration

  • Confident managing complex and varied caseloads

  • Passionate about mentoring and supporting junior veterinarians

  • Interest in developing leadership, people management and business skills

  • Comfortable leading change, improving processes and setting clinical standards

  • Keen to continue developing clinically, including new skill areas if desired
