Head Registered Veterinary Nurse – Supportive Practice & Brilliant Team
Location: Hertford, Hertfordshire
Salary: £32,000–£35,000 DOE
Hours: Full-time or Part-time | No OOH | 1 in 3 Saturdays
I’m delighted to be working with a well-established small animal practice in the beautiful town of Hertford, who are now looking for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their friendly and close-knit team. The practice is known locally for its high standards of care, supportive culture, and exceptionally low staff turnover — a real testament to the great environment the Practice Owner has created.
The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced RVN ready to step up into a leadership position, or an existing Head Nurse looking for a new challenge in a genuinely supportive practice. You’ll take charge of the day-to-day running of the nursing team, providing mentorship, overseeing workflow, and maintaining exceptional standards of patient and client care. You’ll also have the freedom to shape protocols, develop nurse clinics, and contribute to appraisals and audits.
The Practice
Purpose-built and modern, the clinic is well-equipped with digital X-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, capnography, pulse oximetry, and a dedicated sterile theatre, plus separate cat and dog wards and an isolation unit. The current team includes 2 Vets, 1 RVN, 2 VCAs, and a full-time receptionist, with visiting specialists performing orthopaedic, abdominal, and cardiac procedures. Appointments are 30 minutes for non-routine cases and 15 minutes for vaccines, allowing for proper care and attention.
