Head Registered Veterinary Nurse – Fixed Term Contract

South East England | Full-Time | 12-Month FTC | Supportive Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and confident Head Veterinary Nurse to join a friendly and well-established small animal practice on a 12-month fixed-term basis.

This role would suit a proactive and compassionate RVN with previous leadership experience who enjoys supporting and developing others while continuing to work hands-on in a clinical setting.


The Practice

This is a busy, community-focused small animal practice with a supportive clinical team and a loyal client base. The practice is well-equipped for a range of medical and surgical procedures, and the caseload is varied and engaging.

You’ll be working in a welcoming, close-knit environment alongside a team of vets, nurses, and support staff who genuinely enjoy what they do.

The location offers a mix of green space and local amenities, with great access to nearby towns and transport links.


The Role

As Head Nurse, you'll play a key role in leading the nursing team and ensuring high standards of patient and client care. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the clinic

  • Leading nurse consultations and assisting in surgery

  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members

  • Coordinating patient care and ensuring smooth clinical operations

  • Ensuring compliance with clinical and operational standards

  • Collaborating with the wider team to continually improve care and service


About You

  • RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse

  • Confident leading a clinical team

  • Previous experience in a Head or Senior Nurse role preferred

  • Clinical Coach qualification (or open to training)

  • Strong communicator with a supportive, team-focused mindset

  • Passionate about high standards and progressive veterinary care
