Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Guernsey (Relocation Opportunity)

A well-established small animal practice on the island of Guernsey is entering an exciting new chapter and is looking to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon with at least two years’ experience to join their team.

This is a practice in the middle of a genuine rebuild – not because it failed, but because rapid growth meant systems and standards needed to be refreshed. The team is now investing in refurbishment, strengthening clinical standards, and bringing in people who want to be part of building something stronger for the future. This role will appeal to a vet who enjoys being part of positive change and wants to contribute to shaping how a practice evolves.

Despite the transition, one thing that has never changed is the strength of the practice’s community. Guernsey is home to around 65,000 people, and the client base reflects a close-knit island culture. Many families have been bringing their pets to the practice for generations, creating a loyal and deeply valued client community.

The practice operates across two sites and provides a full range of small animal services including consultations, routine and intermediate surgery, medical workups, dentistry, and imaging. Advanced diagnostics such as CT and MRI are referred when required, but most cases are worked up in-house. Vets are encouraged to follow their cases through and exercise genuine clinical autonomy, while always having experienced colleagues available for support.

The rota is designed with balance in mind. On-call is shared fairly at approximately 1 in 4 depending on vet numbers, with alternating weekends. Saturdays are the main weekend commitment, while Sundays are limited to genuine emergencies with just one hour of availability. This is not a 24-hour hospital, and maintaining work-life balance is considered an important part of island living.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience, be confident with consultations and routine surgery, and enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive team. Patience, kindness, and strong communication skills are highly valued, particularly when working with clients who have long-standing relationships with the practice.

Guernsey offers a lifestyle that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. The island combines a relaxed pace of life with strong community spirit, beautiful coastline, and easy access to the UK – with London just 45 minutes away by air. Financially, Guernsey also offers significant advantages, with a flat 20% income tax rate and no capital gains or inheritance tax.

A competitive salary and full relocation package are available to support the move to the island.
