Ready for an OOH Role That Truly Gives You Time Back?

I’m currently working with a well-established 24/7 hospital that is offering something genuinely rare in emergency care: a permanent part-time OOH Veterinary Surgeon role with an exceptional rota, outstanding clinical exposure, and a team that truly has your back.

This position has been designed for vets who love ECC medicine and surgery, but also want proper recovery time, long breaks between shifts, and long-term sustainability in their career.

The Role at a Glance

  • Permanent OOH Veterinary Surgeon

  • 7 nights on / 14 nights off – real downtime between blocks

  • Night shifts only (8pm–8am)

  • Competitive salary in the £55,000–£60,000 range, dependent on experience

  • Work alongside a dedicated OOH RVN and VCA, with reception support early evening and additional nursing cover overnight

  • Freedom to locum elsewhere during your 14 days off, if desired

Clinical Support & Case Variety
You’ll never feel isolated here. You’ll be backed by an experienced, collaborative night team and supported by certificate holders in surgery, medicine and dentistry. The caseload is exactly what ECC vets thrive on, including:

  • Advanced emergency procedures such as chest drains, feeding tubes, AFAST/TFAST, wound management and endoscopy

  • High-level emergency surgery, including caesareans, pyometras and exploratory laparotomies

  • Complex medical cases, including Addisonian crises, DKA and severe pancreatitis

Facilities That Let You Practice Proper Medicine
This hospital is exceptionally well equipped, allowing you to work to a very high clinical standard, with access to:

  • Comprehensive in-house diagnostics and transfusion medicine

  • Advanced ultrasound with Doppler, digital radiography and visiting CT

  • Full endoscopy suite, dental X-ray and modern surgical equipment

  • Multiparameter monitoring, ECG, BP, vessel sealing and more

Development & Benefits That Actually Matter
This role isn’t just about filling shifts — it’s about investing in you:

  • £1,500 annual CPD allowance, with certificate support actively encouraged

  • Structured in-house clinical development and CPD

  • A large, experienced veterinary team for collaboration and case discussion

  • A culture that supports learning, progression and long-term career satisfaction

This is a role where OOH vets stay, because they’re respected, supported and given the time to recover between rotations.

If this sounds like the kind of emergency role you’ve been waiting for, I’d love to speak with you confidentially. You can contact me directly at emily@lloydandcowan.com or call +44 2887 658 068 for a discreet discussion about whether this opportunity could be the right fit for you.
