Hours: 16–20 per week (2 set days)
No weekends, no OOH, no bank holidays
Looking to scale back without stepping down? This two-day-a-week role offers exactly that: clinical variety, autonomy, and a lovely, settled team—without the stress of long hours or after-hours calls.
We’re working with a small animal practice in Carlow that’s well-established, well-equipped, and not part of a big shiny sales machine. It’s just a good place to do good vet work, with good people.
The Day-to-Day
You’ll be running the show on your two days, so confidence in consults and routine soft tissue surgery is essential. There’s a steady mix of appointments, diagnostics, and ops—nothing wild, but definitely enough to keep you sharp. Think:
- First-opinion consults
- Routine and urgent soft tissue surgeries
- In-house bloods, x-rays, ultrasound
- Building rapport with a loyal local client base
This one’s not suitable for new grads you’ll need at least two years of solid GP experience under your belt and be comfortable with sole charge.
What You’re Walking Into
- A small but mighty team: 1 vet, 2 nurses, 1 receptionist
- A purpose-built clinic with all the gear you'd expect (Idexx, digital x-ray, ultrasound)
- A chilled rota that respects your life outside of work
Benefits:
- €1,300 CPD allowance + 5 CPD days
- Certificate support
- Paid VCI + VDS
- 22 days leave
- Enhanced parental leave
- Annual pay reviews
What They’re Looking For
- 2+ years in general practice
- Confident operating solo (support is always available remotely)
- Strong surgical and communication skills
- Registered (or eligible) with the VCI
Interested but not sure yet? Happy to have an informal chat and fill you in, no pressure. This one could be the perfect fit for someone who wants solid clinical work, minimal hassle, and their evenings and weekends back.
