We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a great team in Tipperary on a Part Time basis. Could you be the vet we are looking for?

The Role:

The position is for a part-time Veterinary Surgeon.

This vacancy would suit new graduates looking for the right beginning to their veterinary career and to gain invaluable experience from the clinics amazing team of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses. All levels of Experience welcome!

About:

The practices main hospital is located in Thurles with a smaller branch practice in Cashel. Some of the services they provide are vaccination clinics, first opinion medical consults and local referrals. They run their own in-house bloods, perform in-house ultrasound and x-rays too. And perform routine surgery Monday to Friday which includes spays, castrations and dentals. With a hugely varied caseload to include specialized surgeries like BOAS surgeries, orthopaedics, lump removals and more.

The role includes a variety of responsibilities. They run two clinics, morning and evening, Monday to Friday. Saturdays involve a morning clinic only and they provide their own Out of Hours service.

Hours: The successful candidate would work 2 days (20 hours) per week. We believe in a healthy work/life balance so we are flexible to our employees needs. You would be required to work one weekend in 5 and cover on call during that weekend.

The Practice:

The main hospital in Thurles is large with three consulting rooms, two operating theatres, ultrasound room, x-ray room, prep room, pharmacy, isolation kennels, large friendly waiting room, staff canteen and large carpark. The branch practice in Cashel has one consulting room, prep room, one operating theatre, waiting room, reception area and staff kitchen. Also having in-house blood machines and dental machines on both sites; with x-ray and ultrasound facilities in the hospital.

Boasting a loyal friendly staff that are passionate about their jobs. Their senior members are patient and more than willing to guide and mentor new graduates that are eager to learn.

They have 4.5 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 Veterinary Nurses and 8 Support Staff. 2 certificate holders; one in small animal medicine and another in small animal surgery. The new candidate will become a member of the team like everyone else and would be encouraged to develop their skills to further their veterinary knowledge. They also part-take in neutering schemes for the local charity and have taken part in fundraising for them also.

Location: Tipperary is a scenic county steeped in Irish history. It's a perfect location if you like hill walking, or hiking. The Rock of Cashel is always an attraction and the Cashel Palace is also very popular. If you like GAA you couldn't get closer than Thurles for entertainment.

Requirements of the Candidate:

  • Experience is preferable however the role would suit new graduates.

  • You would need good communication skills and a full clean driving license for this role as there is elements of travel between our two clinics and for Out-of-Hours emergencies you would need to drive.
