Equine Vet – Out of Hours Role – Cambridgeshire (Week On / Week Off)
Does earning a full-time salary for working just half the year sound appealing?
An established equine clinic in Cambridgeshire is looking for an experienced Equine Vet to join their out-of-hours rota team. This is a rare opportunity offering a week on / week off schedule—perfect for those wanting genuine work-life balance without compromising on earnings or clinical exposure.
The role involves covering approximately 50% of the first-call OOH rota, alternating weekly with another dedicated OOH vet. There’s always a second on-call vet for backup, so you’re never alone.
While the role is predominantly ambulatory, full access to the clinic’s facilities is provided—including stabling, surgical suite, stocks, DR, ultrasound, and video endoscopy. There's also the potential to pick up extra locum work during weekdays if desired.
You’ll be part of a friendly and skilled team, with multiple certificate holders on hand for support and clinical discussion. Despite the out-of-hours focus, the successful candidate will be fully integrated into the wider team culture.
The practice is impressively organised thanks to a tech-savvy Practice Manager—admin is streamlined with bespoke mobile apps for bookings, rotas, and remote access.
Package Highlights:
- Salary £45,000–£50,000 DOE
- Monday–Thursday 4.30pm–8.30am, Friday–Monday 8.30am + bank holidays
- 1 week holiday per year, enabling a 3-week break via rota swaps
- Funded CPD & certificate support
- RCVS & 2 memberships covered
- VDS cover
- Enhanced family leave policies
- Staff discounts
- Paid sick leave, regular pay reviews, and a strong focus on wellbeing
This role would suit an experienced equine vet who thrives in the emergency setting and is seeking a more balanced way of working, without stepping back clinically.
