Veterinary Surgeon – Mixed Practice (Small Animal Focus) – Scottish Borders

Here’s a rare opportunity to join a genuinely friendly, mixed practice team nestled in the stunning Scottish Borders. The role is primarily small animal focused with a light touch of farm on-call – ideal for a vet who enjoys variety but prefers the companion animal side.

This team is known for its down-to-earth, supportive culture and relaxed but professional vibe. Everyone gets stuck in with consulting and surgery, and there’s plenty of scope to develop your own interests.

The Practice
This is a long-standing independent mixed practice with a loyal client base and growing companion animal caseload. Their main site is well-equipped with:

  • DR x-ray & dental x-ray

  • New ultrasound

  • Bronchoscopy & gastroscopy

  • Multi-parameter monitoring

On the farm side, they’re equally well set up:

  • 2 Easi-scan ultrasound machines

  • Bull & tup fertility testing

  • Calf warmer and in-house hospitalisation

  • All the kit for beef, sheep, goat, and camelid work (no equine, minimal dairy)

  • Pool cars available – so your own car won’t smell like a cow shed!

The Role & Rota

  • Small animal-focused mixed role, with farm on-call on rotation

  • Out-of-hours shared fairly, supported by a dedicated nurse

  • No routine weekend consulting

  • Friday off after a weekend on-call

About You

  • Confident with small animal consults and surgery
  • Some experience in farm work (or happy to learn)
  • Friendly, down-to-earth and team-focused
  • Keen to grow a clinical interest

What’s on Offer

  • 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays + birthday off
  • CPD budget with flexibility for further development
  • RCVS & VDS fees paid
  • Enhanced sick pay, equal family leave & wellness support
  • Pension with employer contributions
  • E-car scheme, life assurance, referral bonus
  • Staff discounts, flu jabs, and eyecare vouchers

This is a brilliant role for someone looking to put down roots in a practice that values people, not just numbers. Whether you’re an experienced vet or a newer grad with a good foundation and a passion for learning, you’ll be well supported here.
