Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Permanent, Full-Time (Part-Time Considered) | Te Kuiti, King Country

Talal at Lloyd & Cowan Recruitment is pleased to be recruiting a Mixed Animal Veterinarian for a well-established and welcoming practice based in Te Kuiti, in the heart of the King Country.

This role is well suited to a confident mixed practitioner with experience across sheep, beef, and companion animals, and would also strongly appeal to veterinarians considering relocation to New Zealand who are looking for genuine clinical variety, strong team support, and an excellent lifestyle.

The Role

The position is offered on a full-time basis (40 hours per week), with participation in a shared Saturday and on-call roster. Part-time hours (3–4 days per week) may also be considered for the right candidate.

You’ll join an experienced, supportive team who are used to welcoming new colleagues and ensuring a smooth transition into the role and community. The on-call roster is thoughtfully structured to support work–life balance, with weekend duties typically around once every five weeks or less.

This is a truly mixed caseload, offering rewarding work across both production and companion animals, and strong exposure to rural veterinary practice in New Zealand.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering high-quality veterinary care across sheep, beef, and companion animal cases

  • Supporting the local farming community with practical, value-driven veterinary services

  • Consulting, diagnosing, and performing medical and surgical procedures

  • Managing cases independently, including sole charge when required

  • Building trusted relationships with farmers, pet owners, and colleagues

  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative workplace culture

  • Continuing to develop your skills with support from experienced veterinarians

About You

This role will suit a veterinarian who enjoys rural mixed practice and is open to relocating to a close-knit regional community.

You will ideally have:

  • Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration and a current APC
(or eligibility and willingness to obtain registration — support can be discussed)

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science

  • 3+ years’ experience in mixed animal practice

  • A confident clinical skill set across consulting and surgery

  • Comfort working independently when required

  • Strong communication skills and a personable, professional approach

  • A team-focused mindset and interest in ongoing development

What’s On Offer

The practice offers a supportive employment package designed to help you settle in and succeed, including:

  • Competitive remuneration

  • Six-monthly development and performance reviews

  • Ongoing CPD and professional development support

  • Employee assistance programme

  • Wellbeing and lifestyle initiatives

  • Employer KiwiSaver contributions

  • Staff discounts on veterinary services and products

  • Annual flu vaccination

  • An additional paid day off for your birthday

  • Long service leave

  • Enhanced parental leave provisions

  • Flexible working arrangements where possible
