Here at Lloyd & Cowan we are delighted to be wokring with a practice who are seeking a full-time Head Veterinary Nurse to join their state-of-the-art equine referral hospital.

About them:

This is a modern, purpose-built referral hospital, nestled in the stunning Sussex countryside. With 27 stables, an isolation unit, and dedicated Repro/Bonescan blocks, they provide top-tier equine care. Their hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including MRI and CT, allowing them to excel in both medical workups and surgeries.

You will join an experienced and dedicated team of 25 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Veterinary Nurses, and 30 support staff.

What They’re Looking For:

They are seeking a qualified and RCVS-registered (or eligible) Veterinary Nurse with strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a passion for equine care. As Head Nurse, you will lead a team of 4 qualified nurses, 3 student nurses (subject to variation), and 1 Equine Nursing Assistant.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Overseeing hospital equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting any issues.

  • Managing the OOH rota.

  • Ensuring student nurses have dedicated time with their clinical coach.

  • Enforcing PPE use and adherence to policies and procedures.

While weekday and weekend grooms manage daily tasks like mucking out stalls and preparing feeds, you will be responsible for assigning nurses to assist when the hospital is at full capacity or grooms are unavailable.

Weekend and On-Call Duties:

On-call duties begin at 5:30 pm on Friday and end at 8:00 am on Monday. You may be required to assist with various duties, as directed by the senior clinician or a Director. Following a weekend on-call, you will have time off on the following Monday.

Salary:

Up to £35,000 DOE
