Head Veterinary Nurse – Leading Small Animal Hospital | North County Dublin
We’re currently working with a thriving and well-equipped veterinary hospital in North County Dublin, part of a respected national group, to find an experienced and confident Head Veterinary Nurse to join their leadership team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse with at least 3 years’ experience who’s ready to step into a key leadership role. You’ll play an active part in shaping clinical standards, supporting a high-performing nursing team, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in a busy, progressive environment.
The clinic offers a modern, well-resourced setting, a varied caseload, and a dedicated team of vets, nurses, and support staff who are passionate about delivering the highest standards of care.
The Role
As Head Nurse, you’ll be a core member of the clinic’s management team, working closely with the Lead Vet and Practice Manager. You’ll combine hands-on nursing responsibilities with team management and operational oversight.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading by example in clinical nursing duties, including anaesthetic monitoring, inpatient care, administering medications, and supporting complex procedures.

Managing scheduling and rotas for the nursing team, ensuring adequate cover and wellbeing.

Overseeing stock control and supplies, minimising waste and managing ordering systems.

Supporting compliance standards and internal audits, including health and safety checks and equipment protocols.

Playing a lead role in onboarding, mentoring, and training both new and existing nursing team members.

Supporting reception and client communication when needed, including engaging with feedback and ensuring a positive client journey.

Working collaboratively with the broader clinic leadership team to ensure smooth, efficient daily operations and to support long-term development goals.
About You
We’re looking for a strong communicator and capable multi-tasker who thrives in a busy clinical setting and enjoys mentoring others. Ideally, you’ll have:

VCI registration (or eligibility for registration)

At least 3 years' experience as an RVN in small animal practice

A proactive and organised approach to leadership

Experience managing rotas, stock, or team development (formal Head Nurse experience is a bonus)

A keen interest in progressive practice and clinical excellence

Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
Experience in areas like endoscopy, laparoscopy, or dentistry is advantageous but not essential.
