Head Veterinary Nurse (Maternity Cover – Full Time)
Hertfordshire | Established First-Opinion Practice | Fixed-Term Contract

We’re working on behalf of a long-standing, community-focused small animal practice in Hertfordshire that is seeking a Head RVN to join them on a full-time basis for a maternity cover position. This is a hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to influence clinical standards and team development while maintaining a strong focus on patient care.

You’ll be part of a welcoming and supportive team, leading the nursing function and helping shape the day-to-day delivery of care, consults, and surgical support. It’s a great opportunity for an experienced RVN looking to step into a leadership post or further develop their skills in team management and clinical delivery.

What the Role Involves:

  • Leading the nursing team in a friendly, busy first-opinion environment

  • Supporting nurse-led consults and routine procedures

  • Playing a key role in daily patient care, triage, and post-op recovery

  • Encouraging clinical best practices and helping others grow

  • Taking initiative to maintain an efficient, well-organised workflow

  • Collaborating with the wider team and contributing to the practice’s ongoing success

What You’ll Need:

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse

  • A strong track record in delivering quality clinical care

  • The confidence to lead and inspire a nursing team

  • A proactive, supportive approach to teamwork and patient care

  • Willingness to be involved across all aspects of the clinical day

What’s On Offer:

  • A stable, full-time contract within a trusted and supportive practice

  • Autonomy to shape your leadership style in a progressive environment

  • Opportunities for continued learning and mentorship

  • A caring, community-led workplace where your voice matters

This is a great fit for someone looking to build on their leadership potential without stepping away from the clinical floor. You’ll have the space to contribute meaningfully and be part of a team that genuinely enjoys what they do.
