Step into the world of ECC with a flexible, supportive team behind you.

Curious about Emergency and Critical Care but not quite ready to commit full-time? Join a leading after-hours veterinary hospital in the Waikato region that’s on the lookout for veterinarians to join their after-hours team. With some of their regular locums moving into new roles, there’s now space for new vets to gain hands-on ECC experience in a truly supportive environment.

Whether you’re looking to build ECC skills, pick up extra shifts alongside a daytime role, or test the waters in a fast-paced emergency setting - this could be the perfect fit.

What’s on Offer:

  • Flexible night and weekend shifts to fit around your lifestyle

  • A high-performing, friendly team who value collaboration and mentorship

  • Competitive shift rates based on experience

  • Access to state-of-the-art equipment and advanced monitoring tools

  • Professional support, including access to confidential counselling

The Role:
This is a casual role covering after-hours shifts (nights, weekends, and public holidays) in a purpose-built emergency clinic. You'll manage a broad and interesting caseload - no routine work here - supported by experienced ECC vets and nurses.

You’ll have access to a full in-house IDEXX lab, blood gas analysis, SmartFlow inpatient system, digital x-ray, CT, endoscopy, ultrasound, ECG, and advanced monitoring including capnography and doppler.

Mentorship is available for vets newer to emergency, so if you’re ready to explore ECC in a structured and encouraging setting, this is an excellent place to start.

About You:

  • 2+ years of clinical experience

  • Confident working sole charge (with support on hand if needed)

  • Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills

  • Eligible for veterinary registration in New Zealand

  • Prior ECC experience is a bonus – but not essential if you're keen to learn

  • Calm under pressure, and ready to get stuck into hands-on work
