Weekend ECC Veterinary Nurse – Part-Time | County Kildare

We’re working with a forward-thinking veterinary hospital in County Kildare that is expanding its out-of-hours emergency care services. They’re now looking to welcome an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their weekend emergency team on a part-time, every-other-weekend basis.

This is a unique opportunity for an ECC-focused nurse looking to step into a role where they can make a real difference during the moments that matter most. You’ll be working in a fully equipped, purpose-built facility with a collaborative and supportive team.

The Role

You’ll be on the front line of emergency and critical care, delivering hands-on, high-quality nursing during weekend day shifts. Working alongside dedicated vets and support staff, you’ll manage acute cases, assist in urgent procedures, and support critical inpatients with professionalism and compassion.

Shifts: Saturday and Sunday (alternate weekends)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing attentive, expert nursing care to emergency and high-dependency patients

  • Monitoring vitals, managing IVs and fluid therapy, and supporting pain management protocols

  • Assisting with emergency procedures, anaesthesia, and post-op care

  • Supporting triage and resuscitation efforts with confidence and clinical skill

  • Ensuring meticulous infection control and equipment hygiene

  • Documenting treatments and patient progress clearly and accurately

  • Supporting pet owners with calm, compassionate communication

  • Collaborating with the wider team to ensure a seamless standard of care

  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to clinical discussions when needed

About You

You’re an experienced, calm-under-pressure nurse with a strong ECC interest and a genuine passion for providing high-quality care in a fast-paced setting. You thrive in a team environment but are also confident working independently when required.

What we’re looking for:

  • VCI Registered Veterinary Nurse (or eligible)

  • 4+ years’ experience in small animal nursing

  • Solid ECC skills and interest in emergency case work

  • Previous experience in a busy hospital or emergency clinic

  • Strong organisational skills and sound clinical judgement

  • Excellent communication and empathy—for both animals and owners

  • Flexible, committed, and reliable for weekend shifts

Bonus if you have:

  • Additional qualifications in Emergency & Critical Care Nursing

  • Experience with anaesthesia, emergency triage, or post-op ICU care

Why This Role?

  • A truly impactful position where no two days are the same

  • Great work-life balance with fixed alternate weekend shifts

  • Competitive pro-rata salary with holiday allowance included in base

  • CPD actively encouraged and funded – including certificates

  • VCI and VDS fees covered

  • Health plan, gym contributions, cycle-to-work scheme

  • Supportive, friendly hospital team culture

  • On-site parking and well-equipped facilities

This is a brilliant role for a skilled RVN who enjoys the pace and challenge of ECC and is looking for a part-time role that fits around other commitments.
