Veterinary Surgeon
Here at Lloyd & Cowan we are delighted to be working with a practice who are looking for a motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join their talented team across their RCVS accredited branches.
At this practice, they have a team of 4-5 Vets and 5-6 Nurses, with their practice at Thetford consisting of 3 Vets and 4 Nurses, and their practice at Mildenhall, also with 3 Vets and 4 Nurses. They have a vet with an Ophthalmology certificate, one working towards an ECC certificate and nurses working towards anaesthesia and exotics certificates. All the practices also have very proactive and friendly support teams.
Location:
All their branches have plenty for you to explore in your downtime, including: the beauty of meandering around Thetford Priory; the theatres on show at Bury St. Edmunds; and the museums and river walks on offer at Mildenhall. Being close to the coast, there is also plenty opportunity to take a stroll by the sea – or, for the city lovers among you, Cambridge and Norwich are nearby for fun days (or nights!) out. As well as being in a beautiful location, you’re also only a 2-hour drive from London, and about an hour to Norwich and Cambridge, giving you a whole bunch of places to explore.
Role:
They’re open to an experienced Vet, but they would also be happy to support a less-experienced candidate who wants to build up their confidence in surgery, as this will be key to the role. They’re looking for someone who wants to be part of a team that are always striving to provide the best care for their patients and to share their knowledge with each other.
Their full-time Vets work a 4-day week, covering 36 hours. However, they are amenable to part-time and flexible working, for the right candidate. They are also more than happy to consider consult-only, if preferred.
A temporary position to cover maternity leave is also available:
Out of hours their vets have one duty night every fortnight which only involves being back up to the on-call nurse for any inpatient concerns – no phone calls from clients. In a 10–12-week rotation you would have one weekend as first-duty vet, which involves working 8.30-5 on Saturday (for which you receive a day off in lieu) and 9-12 on Sunday; and one weekend as second duty vet, which involves working 9-12 on Saturday and then just being available if the first-duty vet needs a second pair of hands after that.
Ideal Candidate:
This practice's strongest asset is their team, and they encourage input and feedback from all members in order to improve and evolve the service they offer. Your opinion is important to them, and they encourage everyone to get involved and have a say on the way they practice.
Benefits:
Salary in range £40,000-£66,000 DOE, and you will be well reimbursed with extra pay for out-of-hours work and second-on-call weekend duties
Generous £1750 CPD allowance
RCVS VDS fees paid
6.6 weeks paid holiday (including Bank Holidays)
Health Shield – wide ranging contributions for health and wellbeing treatments, from dentistry to sports massage
Enhanced paternity, maternity, adoption, shared parental leave, and surrogacy pay
Discounted veterinary fees
Cycle to Work scheme
Company sick pay
Annual pay reviews
Focus on employee wellbeing
