If you’re a small animal veterinary surgeon looking for a better work-life balance without compromising on your clinical development, this is a rare one.
Based on the outskirts of Birmingham, you’ll have the benefit of being within easy reach of the city while working in a locally owned, standalone small animal practice with an experienced team, excellent facilities and a genuine focus on keeping interesting cases in-house.
And probably the biggest selling point?
No Saturdays. No Sundays.
The practice currently operates Monday to Friday, with bank holidays shared on a rota. There’s plenty of flexibility around the working week too, including part-time options, a regular weekday off and an early Friday finish around 1 in 3.

The practice is based just on the outskirts, giving you a great balance between access to Birmingham and avoiding a city-centre commute every day.
Birmingham city centre is roughly 7–8 miles away, putting the restaurants, nightlife, shopping, entertainment and transport links of the UK's second-largest city within easy reach.
You’re also well connected across the wider West Midlands, with straightforward access to Dudley, Stourbridge and surrounding areas, while having plenty of green space and countryside nearby.
For someone relocating to the area, it means you don't necessarily have to choose between city life and a more relaxed place to live. You can have access to both.
A Properly Equipped Independent-Feeling Practice
The practice has been locally owned for over eight years by two highly experienced veterinary surgeons and has built a stable, experienced clinical team around them.
You’ll work alongside fellow vets, a highly skilled nursing team led by a long-standing Head Nurse, a VCA, Client Care Advisors and an RVN Practice Manager.
The caseload is exclusively small animal, predominantly cats and dogs, with the occasional rabbit or small furry. There’s a good proportion of insured clients, and the team aims to keep as much of its caseload in-house as possible.

There’s also a quality referral hospital within approximately 45 minutes for cases that do need onward referral.
The team is currently working towards Zero Pain accreditation, giving you the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of clinical standards within the practice.
A Diary Designed To Be Manageable
This isn't a practice where you’re expected to fly through back-to-back appointments all day.
Standard consultations are 15 minutes, with 30-minute appointments available for cases that need longer.
Catch-up slots are scheduled every 60–90 minutes, with additional time allocated for phone calls and administration.
Every vet gets at least one operating day per week, giving you a proper balance between consulting and surgery.
Finishing on time is also actively prioritised, with time built into the end of the day to complete your notes.

Ideally, you’ll have around 2+ years of experience and be comfortable managing a general first opinion caseload.
