If you’re an experienced vet who feels ready for more influence over how a practice is run, but still wants to remain properly hands-on clinically, this could be a really interesting opportunity.
We’re working with a brand-new veterinary clinic in Portmarnock looking for an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to take ownership of the clinical side of the practice and help build the team as it grows.
You won’t be walking into a clinic where everything has been set in stone for years. There’s genuine scope to shape the culture, clinical standards and future direction of the practice, while having the support and infrastructure of a wider veterinary group behind you.
The team
You’ll already have a good foundation to build from, with an experienced Vet, Head Nurse and ACA currently in place.
The longer-term plan is to grow towards a three-vet team, giving the incoming Lead Vet a real opportunity to influence future recruitment, mentor developing vets and create the kind of clinical environment they want to lead.
The role
This is still very much a clinical position, but alongside your own consulting and surgical caseload, you’ll take the lead on developing the team and performance of the clinic.
You’ll have the autonomy to:

Lead, coach and develop the veterinary team

Maintain high clinical and patient-care standards

Mentor vets and support their clinical progression

Work closely with the Head Nurse on the day-to-day clinical service

Help shape clinical protocols and preventative healthcare

Drive the clinic's business plan and future growth

Understand and monitor KPIs, revenue and clinic profitability

Improve operational efficiency and help introduce new initiatives
They’re ideally looking for someone with 3+ years of experience who has strong clinical foundations and enjoys the people side of veterinary practice.
Previous Lead Vet experience would be great, but equally, this could suit a strong Senior Vet who has started mentoring others and is ready to take that next step.

Working pattern
The standard structure is either a 4 or 5 day week, with approximately 1:4 Saturdays and 1:12 Sundays.
Relocating to Dublin?
They recognise that finding somewhere to live around Dublin can be one of the biggest barriers to relocating.
For the right candidate, there is potential access to initial temporary accommodation while you get settled, subject to availability and confirmation.
And this coastal town itself is a lovely place to be based. You’re on the coast in North Dublin, with the beach on your doorstep while still having straightforward access into Dublin city and Dublin Airport.
This isn't simply about stepping into somebody else's Lead Vet position. It's an opportunity to come into a new clinic, build on the team already there and have a genuine say in what the practice becomes.
