On a day-to-day basis you can expect to perform approximately 15 small animal consultations and 3 or more small animal surgical procedures (actual numbers will depend on the complexity of the procedure). Most of the patients are dogs and cats, but there is occasionally a rabbit or bird to treat or operate on. The vets are not expected to be on call after hours – all after hours calls are referred to the two emergency centres in Canberra. Saturday morning clinics are held weekly, and the vet roster is one in three of those Saturdays.

  • Can confidently perform more complex soft tissue surgery, examples being enterotomy, enterectomy, gastrotomy, gastropexy, cystotomy, splenectomy, eyelid surgery (entropion, ectropion, meibomian adenoma removal)

  • Some knowledge and experience with advanced surgery such as non-routine wound closure techniques (e.g., local skin flaps, axial pattern flaps); conjunctival flaps, ultrasound guided aspiration and needle biopsy, basic orthopaedics (fracture repair, ACL surgery). Brachycephalic airways surgery

  • Small animal dentistry including fillings

  • Some knowledge of chemotherapy

  • Radiography including contrast techniques. Basic ultrasound – abdomen and thorax.

  • Practice medicine to a high standard of competency

  • Ability to cope with and be comfortable with sole charge when necessary

  • CPD leave and allowance, VIN membership and Employee Assistance Program.

  • Working hours can be flexible and perfectly suited for vets who are juggling other priorities.

  • No afterhours work and no public holidays! Work life balance is just as important to us, as it is for you.

  • Salary on offer is up to $180,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
