Love your small animal work but want a genuine exotics caseload to sink your teeth into?
We're working with a well-established, supportive practice in East Maitland, just outside Newcastle NSW, where the exotics side is growing fast and there's real appetite to build it further. Alongside a full and varied small animal caseload, you'd have the chance to develop in exotics, backed by a team that will support you the whole way.
The caseload:
- A steadily growing exotics caseload: reptiles, birds, pocket pets and wildlife, with plenty to get involved in and room to make it your own
- A partnership with a local exotics pet store, which breeds and sells birds and reptiles from its storefront, feeding a steady, varied and genuinely interesting caseload
- Referrals through the local agricultural society, adding even more variety
- A full small animal caseload across medicine, surgery and dentistry, so you keep all your skills sharp
- 20-minute consults and 40-minute extended consults, with dedicated admin time built into the day, so you have time to do things properly
The support:
- A Veterinary Director who loves teaching and is hands-on with exotics herself, so you're learning alongside someone who shares the interest
- Never sole charge (bar Saturdays), with 2 to 3 vets on and an experienced, long-standing nursing team around you
- Emergencies referred out, so your evenings stay your own
- A close, stable team where people genuinely stay
On offer:
- Salary up to AUD $140,000, depending on experience
- $2,000 CPD allowance and 5 days' paid study leave to grow your exotics expertise
- Full or part-time (minimum 3 days), on 4x10 or 5x8 shifts, only 1 in 4 Saturdays, no Sundays, bank holidays or on-call
- 4 weeks' annual leave and flexibility around family needs
- Visa sponsorship available for the right long-term candidate

About you:
- A Veterinary Surgeon registrable with the AVBC in Australia, confident across small animal practice
- A genuine interest in (or experience with) exotics, and keen to grow that caseload
- Someone who values support, variety and being part of a friendly, close-knit team
