Night Veterinary Surgeon (ECC) – Nights – West Sussex
£60,000 – £72,000 per annum (DOE) | Annualised hours, averaging 33.1 hrs/week | Nights | Accommodation available
The ECC vet who owns the night
You became an emergency and critical care vet to make the calls that matter, often when the rest of the world is asleep. If you thrive in that space, calm under pressure and genuinely energised by a critical case, this one is worth a conversation.
I'm recruiting on behalf of a proudly independent group for an experienced Night Vet to join their emergency and critical care team in West Sussex. The role is based at one of two busy, purpose-built hospitals, one on the coast near Chichester and one at the foot of the South Downs in Storrington, so there's a location to suit whether you prefer the sea or the hills. That independence shows in everything from the clinical freedom on offer to the genuinely warm, home-from-home feel of the buildings the moment you walk in.
The role
You'll be involved in first-opinion and emergency critical care, covering medical and surgical cases, advanced diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation. It's the kind of caseload that lets you grow and master your areas of special interest, whether that's clinical specialism, a certificate, leadership, or something else entirely. The hospitals run a genuine 24/7 service with vet and nurse teams around the clock, so you're well supported through the night, never carrying it alone.

Rota: 7-on, 14-off, averaging 33.1 hours per week on an annualised hours contract. Night shifts are usually 13 hours. That fortnight off after every block is real, protected time to recover and enjoy life.
Who they're looking for
You'll be an experienced ECC Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS) with a valid driving licence, and a genuine interest in and previous experience of emergency and critical care.
Most importantly, you'll share their values: humility, respect, empathy, work ethic, honesty, communication, and teamwork. This is a team that's constructive, encouraging and kind to one another, always, and treats clients with the same respect and empathy.
The location
West Sussex offers a wonderful quality of life, whichever site you choose. Towards the coast you have Chichester, a compact, characterful city beside Chichester Harbour's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with sailing, the wide sands of West Wittering, and the renowned Festival Theatre. Inland, the South Downs National Park brings rolling chalk hills, ancient woodland and endless walking, cycling and riding, with lively villages, independent shops and good pubs on your doorstep. Both are well connected, with fast road and rail links to the coast, nearby towns and London. Wherever you land, there's plenty to wind down with after a run of nights.
