Large Animal Bias | 1:4 On-Call | Vehicle Provided | Accommodation Available | Flexible Hours
If you’re an experienced farm or mixed vet looking for a role where you can actually shape your working week, this could be a very good one to explore.
We’re working with an established mixed practice in Northern Ireland looking to add an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to its 6-vet team, four of whom have more than 20 years’ experience.
The role has a strong large animal bias, with a varied beef, sheep and dairy caseload. There is scope to retain some small animal work if you enjoy a genuinely mixed role, but they’re equally happy to consider someone who wants to focus predominantly on farm work.
The Team
You’ll be joining a 6-vet team, with four vets bringing 20+ years of experience, alongside an established nursing and support team.
You’ll need to be comfortable managing your own farm calls and cases, but there is a significant amount of experience around you when you need another opinion or an extra pair of hands.
The Role
This is a hands-on farm role covering routine and emergency large animal work.
They’re particularly looking for someone comfortable with:
- Calvings, lambings and C-sections
- Twisted uterus and uterine prolapse
- LDA/RDA surgery
- Castrations and disbudding
- Farm calls and medical cases independently
- Routine herd and flock work
TB testing certification would be useful, but it isn’t essential from day one. If you already have relevant experience and are eligible to become certified, they can work around this.
You’ll need to be RCVS registered or eligible for registration, and a full UK driving licence is essential.
A Rota Built Around You
One of the biggest selling points here is the flexibility.
There isn’t a rigid four or five-day working pattern. They’re open to full-time, part-time and different working patterns, and are happy to build the rota around the right vet provided the on-call commitment is covered.
On-call is 1 in 4 with TOIL.
So whether you’re looking for a traditional full-time week, compressed hours or fewer days, it’s worth a conversation.
