Northern Rivers, New South Wales
An independent veterinary clinic in Grafton is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and experienced team.
The practice would ideally like to welcome an experienced vet but is also open to appointing two new graduates. If you have a friend or partner from university and would like to begin your veterinary careers together, this could be an excellent opportunity.
The Practice
The workload is predominantly small animal, covering routine consultations and desexing alongside more complex medical and surgical cases. The team also performs TPLOs and other orthopaedic procedures.
Facilities include:
- Digital radiography
- Ultrasound
- IM3 dental equipment
- IDEXX in-house haematology and biochemistry
- Modern, renovated and expanded premises
- Fully equipped vehicle for large animal calls
You’ll be supported by an excellent nursing team and a loyal, appreciative client base.
Mixed or Small Animal—The Choice Is Yours
The ideal candidate will enjoy a mainly small animal caseload while being willing to assist with occasional equine and cattle work. However, vets seeking a small animal-only position are also encouraged to apply.
Large animal work includes:
- Equine castrations, Hendra vaccinations and basic dentistry
- Cattle pregnancy testing and bull breeding soundness examinations
- Equine wound management
- Bovine dystocia and other emergency work
Support is available from a PREgCHECK and BULLCHECK-accredited vet, making this an excellent environment for someone wishing to develop their large animal skills.
Rota and Benefits
- Flexible working week of three to five days
- On-call rota of approximately one weekend in four
- Friday off following an on-call weekend for full-time vets
- At least 50% of professional fees paid to the vet for after-hours cases
- Practice vehicle provided for large animal calls
- Alternatively, a mileage allowance is available when using your own vehicle
- Negotiable salary based on experience
- Genuine future partnership potential
Life in the Northern Rivers
Grafton sits on the banks of the Clarence River in the sunny Northern Rivers region of NSW. It is an excellent location for kayaking, sailing and water-skiing—with kayaks and access to a ski boat available for anyone keen to get onto the water.
The beaches of Yamba and Coffs Harbour are within approximately an hour, while national parks, mountains and white-water rivers are equally accessible to the west.
Whether you are an experienced vet seeking flexibility and future partnership potential, a new graduate looking for strong support, or two friends hoping to start your careers together, we would be delighted to hear from you.
