Looking for a locum role with variety, a supportive team, and a genuinely rewarding caseload? This could be a great option.

A well-established team in Newry area is looking for an experienced Locum Veterinary Surgeon to support across a number of upcoming dates, with ongoing work available.

The Role
This is a first opinion small animal role, ideally suited to a vet with at least 2 years’ experience who is confident with a mix of medical and surgical cases and comfortable with occasional sole charge.

There’s a varied caseload including:

  • General first opinion consults and surgery
  • Shelter work with in-house cats and dogs

Orthopaedic experience would be a bonus, but not essential. You’ll be supported by an experienced team and given a proper handover and settling-in period before any sole charge.

Hours are 9am–7pm weekdays and 9am–6pm on Saturdays, with no out of hours.

The Team & Practice
You’ll be joining a genuinely supportive and collaborative team including 3 vets, RVNs, ANAs and additional support staff and volunteers. It’s a busy but well-run environment where there’s always help around.

The clinic is well equipped and uses Merlin PMS, with training available if needed. Alongside the hospital, there’s also an on-site grooming salon and pet shop.

The Dates

April: 18th, 25th (Saturdays)
May: 2nd, 9th (Saturdays)
June: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th (Saturdays)
July: 16th, 17th, 18th, 25th
August: 1st (Saturday)

There is also scope for ongoing locum work beyond these dates.

The Package

  • £350–£400 per shift (DOE, open to discussion)
  • No OOH (covered externally)
  • Supportive team and varied caseload

Please note accommodation isn’t currently provided, but may be explored if needed.

The Location
Based in Newry, you’ll have access to a lively city with great restaurants, pubs and shopping, while also being close to some of Northern Ireland’s best coastal and scenic spots including Warrenpoint, Rostrevor and Cranfield. With easy access to both Belfast and Dublin, it’s a great base if you’re looking to combine work with a bit of exploring.
