Lloyd & Cowan Veterinary Recruitment are delighted to be working with a progressive, independent mixed practice in the South West as they prepare to launch a brand-new branch in Saltash, Cornwall in Autumn 2026.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced small animal vet to take full ownership of a new clinic from day one – shaping its growth, building a team, and establishing it as a leading practice in the area.
The Opportunity
This is not your typical lead vet role. You will play a central role in the set-up, launch, and long-term success of the branch, with full support from an established and highly respected multi-branch practice.
Initially, the clinic will operate with a lean team (vet, nurse, receptionist), supported by colleagues from nearby branches when needed. As the caseload grows, you will lead the expansion of the team and services, with clear scope to develop into a multi-vet site.
The Role
- Lead and develop a brand-new small animal branch
- Deliver high-quality first opinion care across all disciplines
- Work confidently in a sole charge environment initially
- Build and lead your own team as the branch grows
- Drive clinical standards, client experience, and overall performance
About You
- Minimum 5 years’ small animal experience
- Strong all-round GP skills (advanced interests welcome but not essential)
- Confident working independently and making clinical decisions
- Motivated by responsibility, growth, and career progression
- Passionate about delivering exceptional client and patient care
Working Pattern & OOH
- 4-day week (9am–6pm)
- 1 in 7 OOH rota (weeknights/weekends) at a nearby site (approx. 20 mins away)
- Supported by 24/7 nursing team; low overnight caseload
What’s on Offer
- Salary £65,000 – £80,000 depending on experience
- Performance-related bonus linked to branch success
- Relocation support available
- 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays + birthday off
- Private healthcare
- Full CPD support (including certificates)
- RCVS & VDS paid
- Access to advanced equipment and experienced colleagues across the wider practice
The Practice & Location
You’ll be joining a well-established, independent group with a strong reputation, multiple certificate holders, and access to advanced facilities including CT, laparoscopy, and arthroscopy.
Located in Cornwall, this role offers an exceptional lifestyle – with easy access to coastline, countryside, and the amenities of nearby Plymouth. The practice places a real emphasis on work-life balance, with shorter working days allowing you to fully enjoy the area.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a vet seeking leadership, autonomy, and financial reward – without the risks of ownership.
