Head Veterinary Surgeon Opportunity
South Coast
Up to £90,000+ DOE | 4 Day Week | Minimal Weekend Work
A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to step into a genuine leadership position within a modern, highly invested small animal practice on the South Coast.
This role would suit either an existing Head Vet, or an experienced senior GP vet looking to take the next step into leadership with real influence, support and long term progression available.
The current Head Vet has been with the group for 5 years and within this clinic for the past 2.5 years, making this a genuine succession opportunity within a very stable and well established team environment.
The Practice
This is a purpose built, spacious and very well equipped clinic with a strong existing team and an excellent reputation locally. The environment is centred around high clinical standards, collaboration and continuity of care, while still maintaining a strong focus on work life balance for the team.
The current setup includes a 3.5 vet team, a dedicated Client Care team of 5, along with a team of 5 RVNs and additional SVN support, with one SVN qualifying this summer and another joining shortly. There is already a very strong support structure in place clinically and operationally.
The clinic itself continues to invest heavily into both equipment and development, with facilities including high quality ultrasound, modern diagnostics, spacious prep and theatre area.
The Role
This is a hands on leadership role combining clinical work with mentoring, team development and input into the continued growth and direction of the clinic.
The team are fairly open minded regarding the profile of person coming in. Previous senior or leadership experience would be ideal, however it is not an absolute necessity for the right vet. The role could equally suit a strong all round GP vet ready to step into leadership for the first time, particularly someone who enjoys supporting colleagues and helping drive clinical standards forward.
Certificates are welcomed but not essential, and the clinic would also support someone wanting to continue developing a particular area of interest further. There is already a nice variety of interests within the team including ophthalmology and dentistry development.
Importantly, this is not one of those leadership roles where work life balance disappears.
The rota offers a genuine 4 day week consisting of 9 hour shifts, alongside only 1 in 4 weekends with reduced weekend hours of just 9am–3pm Saturday and Sunday. There are no out of hours requirements.
The Package
Salary is highly flexible depending on experience, leadership exposure and clinical strengths, with realistic earning potential ranging from the mid/high £70,000s up towards £90,000 for the right individual.
Alongside this comes funded memberships, generous CPD support, leadership training, enhanced parental leave, income protection, wellbeing support and genuine long term progression opportunities within a highly invested group.
Location
This South Coast location offers an excellent balance between coastal lifestyle and career opportunity, with beaches, waterfront living, excellent restaurants and strong transport links all nearby. It’s an ideal location for someone wanting a better quality of life without sacrificing clinical exposure or progression.
