Head Veterinary Nurse | Liverpool

£35,000 - £40,000 | Full Time | Small Animal

Are you an experienced RVN ready to take the lead of a nursing team, while still staying hands-on clinically?

I’m working with a busy and growing small animal practice in Liverpool looking for a Head Veterinary Nurse to lead and develop their nursing team.

This would suit an experienced RVN who enjoys bringing the best out of others, maintaining high clinical standards and having a genuine say in how the nursing team develops.

The Role

You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the nursing team, working closely with the Practice Manager and vets while remaining involved clinically.

The role will include:

  • Leading and supporting the nursing team

  • Mentoring RVNs, student nurses and VCAs

  • Supporting training, appraisals and development plans

  • Managing nursing rotas and staffing levels

  • Running team meetings and regular one-to-ones

  • Maintaining strong clinical and infection control standards

  • Supporting clinical protocols and SOPs

  • Helping improve workflow and how the nursing team operates

  • Creating a supportive but accountable team culture

What They’re Looking For

You’ll need to be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse with at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience and previous senior, supervisory or leadership experience.

Strong anaesthetic, surgical and inpatient nursing skills are important, alongside the confidence to lead people, make decisions and deal with challenges when they arise.

Experience as a Clinical Coach, running nurse consultations, managing rotas or being involved in recruitment and appraisals would be beneficial.

The Package

  • £35,000 - £40,000 DOE

  • Full-time position

  • Generous CPD allowance

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid

  • Contributory pension

  • Supportive leadership team

  • Genuine opportunity to shape and develop the nursing department

  • Company and high street discounts

If you’re already in a senior nursing position, or you’re an experienced RVN looking for that next step into leadership, I’d be happy to have a confidential chat and tell you more.

All applications and conversations are handled with strict confidentiality.

Not quite the right location? I’m working with practices across the UK and Ireland, so feel free to get in touch about other opportunities.

If it’s not one for you but you know someone who could be interested, I’d be happy to speak with them too so feel free to refer them. If we can help them, you are entitled to a referral fee of £200.
