Head Veterinary Nurse – Full-Time | Leadership Role | Hertfordshire/Berkshire Border

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a well-established, community-focused veterinary practice located near Slough. This is a permanent, full-time position ideal for a qualified RVN ready to take the next step into clinical leadership within a supportive and collaborative team.

The practice offers a warm, welcoming environment with a loyal client base and a small, dedicated team. With easy access to London and major transport links, it provides the ideal balance between city accessibility and a friendly, local feel.


The Role

  • Contract: Permanent, full-time

  • Hours: Tuesday to Friday (8:30am–6:00pm or 10:00am–7:30pm)

  • Weekends: 1 in 6 at a nearby 24-hour hospital

  • On-Call: Limited rota (approx. 2–4 weeks annually)

  • Location: Border of Berkshire and Hertfordshire

As Head Nurse, you’ll be responsible for the clinical leadership of the nursing and support team, helping to maintain high standards of patient care and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This is a varied role where you’ll have the opportunity to lead, coach, and make a real impact across both clinical and team performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on clinical care and leadership within the practice

  • Conduct nurse consultations and perform schedule 3 procedures

  • Oversee patient monitoring, admissions, and discharges

  • Ensure clinical compliance and uphold best practice standards

  • Mentor and support junior staff to promote professional development

  • Coordinate with the wider team to optimise daily workflow and service delivery


About You

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse

  • Confident leading a clinical team and supporting consults and procedures

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • A collaborative, positive approach to leadership

  • Committed to delivering excellent patient and client care
