We have an exciting opportunity for an equine veterinary surgeon to join the team at this clinic in Bendigo, the heart of Victoria’s famous Goldfield’s region.
This clinic is seeking suitable applicants for Senior Stud Veterinarian position in a seasonal capacity from approximately August through to January. This clinic practices state of the art surgery, medicine, and reproduction. The case load includes a wide variety of horses from Warmbloods to miniature ponies, racing industry, sport and pleasure horses and everything else in between.
This clinic has a large reproduction case load that includes artificial insemination (frozen and fresh chilled), embryo-flush and collection for ET, hysteroscopic procedures, and laparoscopic PGE. They service a wide range of studs in the area. As a consequence of their busy reproductive case load, they also see numerous sick foals, dystocia’s and associated medicine and surgery cases.
This growing practice is currently performing approximately 30 gas anaesthetics per month (arthroscopies, colics, throat surgery, cryptorchids, fracture repair, etc) and at least double that number of intravenous anaesthetics and standing procedures that are also performed in the hospital (joint flushes, kissing spine surgery, implant removals, stitch ups, geldings, eye surgeries, sequestrums etc). There are also numerous visiting specialists that utilise the facility.
The position:
2 years graduated experience in mixed or equine practice, but new or recent graduates are encouraged to apply. There is a capacity to accommodate vets with differing levels of experience with a young graduate support and mentoring program, due to the size of our veterinary group.
The successful applicants will join the Ambulatory/Reproduction team with diverse responsibilities able to be tailored depending on the applicant’s strengths and experience.
The role involves working within a team of vets servicing the central region of Victoria.
The afterhours roster will be 1 in 3 or better with adequate back up and second opinion from experienced and specialist veterinarians.
Requirements:
Degree in Veterinary Medicine/Science eligible for full veterinary registration in Victoria
A candidate who has completed an equine internship will be given preference but is not essential.
Minimum of one year of equine reproduction focused work
Victorian driver’s license
Equal shared on-call
Ability to work and communicate efficiently within a large team and fast paced environment to provide a high standard of veterinary care.

Bendigo is in the heart of Victoria the second largest populated regional town in Victoria. It is also home to a thriving arts culture. The Bendigo and surrounds area are approximately 1 1/2 hours’ drive from Melbourne city with trains also running on a frequent basis. The area is well known for its vineyards and national parks. Bendigo Equine Hospital is one of the busiest equine veterinary practices in Central Victoria, employing over 10 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.
