Night Veterinary Surgeon (ECC) – Nights – Hospital near Chichester, West Sussex

£60,000 – £72,000 per annum (DOE) | Annualised hours, averaging 33.1 hrs/week | Nights | Accommodation available

The ECC vet who owns the night

You became an emergency and critical care vet to make the calls that matter, often when the rest of the world is asleep. If you thrive in that space, calm under pressure and genuinely energised by a critical case, this one is worth a conversation.

I'm recruiting on behalf of a proudly independent group for an experienced Night Vet to join the emergency and critical care team at a busy, purpose-built hospital on the beautiful West Sussex coast, just outside Chichester. That independence shows in everything from the clinical freedom on offer to the genuinely warm, home-from-home feel of the building the moment you walk in.

The role

You'll be involved in first-opinion and emergency critical care, covering medical and surgical cases, advanced diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation. It's the kind of caseload that lets you grow and master your areas of special interest, whether that's clinical specialism, a certificate, leadership, or something else entirely. The hospital runs a genuine 24/7 service with vet and nurse teams around the clock, so you're well supported through the night, never carrying it alone.

What's on offer

  • Salary of £60,000 – £72,000 per annum, depending on experience

  • Accommodation available, which makes relocating a great deal easier

  • 7 weeks' holiday (including bank holidays), incorporated into your annualised hours

  • Generously funded CPD, with certificate funding available

  • 40% staff discount on care for your own pets

  • Enhanced parental leave: 6 months paid at 90%

  • Enhanced sickness benefit: 2 weeks at 100%

  • Standard pension benefit

  • Occupational health resources, including real mental health support

Rota: 7-on, 14-off, averaging 33.1 hours per week on an annualised hours contract. Night shifts are usually 13 hours. That fortnight off after every block is real, protected time to recover and enjoy life.

Who they're looking for

You'll be an experienced ECC Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS) with a valid driving licence, and a genuine interest in and previous experience of emergency and critical care.

Most importantly, you'll share their values: humility, respect, empathy, work ethic, honesty, communication, and teamwork. This is a team that's constructive, encouraging and kind to one another, always, and treats clients with the same respect and empathy.

The location

It's hard to beat this corner of the world for lifestyle. You'll be moments from the South Downs on one side and the coast on the other, with Chichester Harbour's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sailing clubs, and the wide sands of West Wittering all within easy reach. The city itself is compact and full of character, with Roman walls, the renowned Festival Theatre, independent shops and easy cafés. And it's well connected, with Portsmouth, Brighton and Southampton all under an hour and London around 90 minutes away. Ideal for winding down with a coast walk after a run of nights.
