Out-of-Hours ECC Veterinary Surgeon – Nights – 24/7 Hospital, Leeds, West Yorkshire

£55,000 – £60,000 per annum (DOE) | 7 nights on, 14 nights off | 8pm–8am

Nights, done properly, in a hospital built for emergencies

You became an emergency vet to be there for the cases that can't wait. If you want to do that work in a genuinely well-equipped 24/7 hospital, with a strong overnight team around you and two weeks off after every block, this one is worth a conversation.

I'm recruiting for a busy 24-hour small animal hospital in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire, for an experienced Out-of-Hours ECC Veterinary Surgeon. This is a hospital that takes emergency and critical care seriously, with the kit, the caseload and the team to match.

The role and the team

Working nights, you'll lead the out-of-hours service alongside a dedicated OOH RVN and OOH VCA, so you're properly supported from the moment you walk in. Reception stays staffed until 10pm, with additional twilight RVN support until midnight to help you through the busiest early hours.

Behind you is a hospital designed for exactly this kind of work, with advanced imaging, endoscopy, cardiac ultrasound, in-house laboratory, dedicated dental and surgical facilities, and separate ward and isolation units. You'll also have genuine in-house support from certificate holders across surgery, medicine and dentistry, so complex cases and next-day handovers are backed by real expertise. It's a large, well-staffed team, and an RCVS Approved Graduate Development Practice, so support and development are part of the culture.

What's on offer

  • Salary £60,000+ per annum, depending on experience

  • 7 nights on, 14 nights off, so a genuine fortnight to recover and enjoy life after every block

  • £1,500 annual CPD allowance

  • In-house certificate-holder support across surgery, medicine and dentistry

  • A dedicated overnight team: OOH RVN and OOH VCA, plus twilight RVN cover and reception support

  • A fully equipped 24/7 hospital with advanced diagnostics and referral-level facilities

Shifts: 8pm to 8am, on a 7-on, 14-off pattern. Please note accommodation is not provided.

Who they're looking for

You'll be a confident Veterinary Surgeon with a real interest and previous experience in emergency and critical care, comfortable taking the lead overnight and making sound decisions under pressure. Whether you're already an ECC specialist or an experienced GP vet who loves the buzz of emergency work, you'll thrive here.

The location

This is one of the best-connected corners of West Yorkshire, with excellent motorway links putting Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield all a short drive away. You've got retail parks, cinemas, supermarkets and plenty of places to eat close by, well-regarded local schools, and easy access to open countryside and scenic walking routes. It's an easy, affordable place to live with a great balance of city convenience and Yorkshire countryside, and simple to commute to from a wide surrounding area.
