Deputy Head Vet | South Yorkshire | Up to £70,000 DOE
We're looking for a Deputy Head Vet with 3+ years' UK small animal experience, ready to take on real leadership responsibility. Whether you're moving into a leadership role for the first time or already have experience and want a fresh challenge, this is worth a look.
The role
A mix of hands-on clinical work (preventative care, diagnostics, treating sick and injured pets) and supporting the Head Vet with clinical standards, mentoring colleagues, and shaping how the practice develops. You'll need to be a strong communicator who enjoys coaching others, not just managing them.
4 set days a week, 1 in 4 weekends. Flexible on structure if that doesn't suit you, so just say.
The location
Based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. 15 minutes from Sheffield, under an hour from Leeds, and close to the Peak District for weekends away. Good motorway access via the M1 and M18, plus direct rail links to Sheffield and Leeds.
Practically, this means a lower cost of living, houses you can actually afford, and short commutes. It's an underrated part of the country to build a life as a vet: decent money that goes further, with cities, coastline, and countryside all within reach.

A purpose-built, modern small animal hospital: 9 consultation rooms, 4 operating theatres, a dedicated dental suite, ultrasound suite, and an in-house CT suite with a 128-slice scanner. Two dog wards, two cat wards, two prep areas.
Many of the team are working towards postgraduate certificates, so there's a genuine culture of ongoing learning here.
